  1. It is going to have a major impact on daily life. Great scope.

  2. I have my BEng in Mechatronics.

I would say that the advantages are from learning a multi-disciplinary specialty. This allows you to understand aspects from different engineering departments, and I think would give you an advantage as the head or manager of an engineering dept.

Also, this understanding of multiple approaches to problems can help you design more efficient systems, depending on your field of application.

I suppose in the end what it really boils down to is being able to choose the optimal solutions to a problem from a large range of usable technologies. i.e. optimising a control system for a water injection system to control the pump, as opposed to running the pump continuously and controlling a valve position. (as is done on lots of wet low NOX installations)

I have had the pleasure of working in an automation company, but now do controls for gas turbines.

Really it is a useful skill, with plenty of options at the end. It allows you to define your strengths and weaknesses and choose what type of engineering you really want to work in.

I could get a job doing mechanical, electrical, control, telecom, electronic, or product design, or management. Lots of options.

    AND it just sounds cool.
