  1. The question isn't very clear.

Maybe you're asking how we check knowledge through observations?

We create portfolio assesments that include a variety of data - observational checklists, samples of children's work, formal assessments, photos, etc.

  2. Not 100% sure i understand your question:

    Do you mean:

"Why do we need to check our knowledge on observations?"

    If so-

-to ensure we provide the best care and educational opportunities possible

-to keep uptodate on theories and approaches

-to make sure we are following the relevant curriculum and s nursery polices and proceedures

-to evaluate whether you're approach to observations is the most appropriate.

or "how can we check our knowledge..."

-by getting a member of staff to evaluate your observation

-another member of staff does a peer obs whislt your doing an observation.

-self-evaluation-write down how you feel your skills are coming on and where you need improvement.

-speak to parents of the children

    -go on training courses

or are you asking "how do we check childrens knowledge through observations?"

-do observation based on what you need to know eg: narrative (to see social play, language etc),event sample (behaviour, play routines).

-Check against curriculum or framework used  within the setting

-Child development norms eg: if investigating a possible Special educational needs

-look for patterns in the results, look for timings (how long at creative activiites, maths activities etc)

-Discuss with parents/carers or outside professionals who may see patterns of something we may not see.
