Does anybody agree? If not why?

Does aybody agree that Global warming is something that is supposed to be occuring. Just a few days ago I went to the national geographic website and there was a news about people who lived 150,000 years ago barely survived when CLIMATE CHANGES were occuring. I still do think that the coal, fossil fuels and other things are affecting Earths temperatures. Climate changes are changes in Earth. Earth is supposed to change. So does anybody agree that temperatures rising or Global Warming is supposed to occur?

  1. No. good day.

  2. ya,i agree with u,golbal warming is occuring, and we should use preventive measures.

  3. Climate changes are supposed to occur.  But human activities are making it worse.

  4. I don't really agree with you, Global Warming all happened in the year when scientists invented technology such as the lightbulb, cars and other stuff that uses electricity without that, Global Warming wouldn't be happening. I'm VERY certain the cavemen didn't effect the Earth in any way,..................because there was no technology back then!!!! Global Warming also happens because of the green house gases (C2O)

  5. Plants require CO2 to grow, according to wikipedia the suffocation level isn't much below 300 parts per million of CO2. Currently we're at 380+ ppm. Is that reason to be alarmed? The temperature record from ice cores and geological data show that CO2 levels have been as much as 20 times higher than they are today, with temp a mere 7C higher than now. So why all the predictions that the world will burn if CO2 levels double what they were 100 years ago? They could double from current levels and very little additional warming would occur.

Ice ages are caused by perturbations in the Earth's orbit around the sun and solar events, not CO2 levels or the lack thereof. It's been true for millions of years, I think it will remain true for the next few thousand years at least. The CO2 we are putting in the air isn't something we create, it's released from where it was originally stored. When I was young they were concerned that so much CO2 was being stored in the oceans, if it declined too much plant life would die and animal life would follow shortly thereafter. Now it's considered a pollutant which is beyond idiotic.

When the ice age does return I hope we'll have found a way to actually make the Earth warm, few of us would survive the advance of mile-high glaciers worldwide. But CO2 won't be the solution, it's a tiny force, .04% of the total atmosphere.

  6. No, I do not. Neither does any other scientist--or any educated lay person, either.

The gist of the argument you are repeating is that because there are natural occurrences of  climate change, our current global warming and climae change is therefore natural and "supposed to happen."

That's like saying that because lightening causes forest fires, any forest fire is "supposed to happen"--even if it was started by a careless camper or an arsonist.

The current global warming is NOT natural.  Natural changes in climate of this scale take thousands--or tens of thousands  of years to happen.  The current global warming is happening in decades.

Further, the cause is known--human action, mainly deforestation aand the burning of fossil fuels.

That is not "supposed" to happpen.  It is a result of actions humans have taken, and can be changed by altering our actions.

  7. No.  Right now we're in the middle of a long-term very gradual cooling period of the Earth's orbital cycles, and solar output has not increased on average in 30 years.  The planet should not be warming right now.

See the link below for further details on how we know the current global warming is due to humans burning fossil fuels.

  8. there is not a "supposed to be occurring" about it.

    climate does change over time.

climate also changes as a result of man made, and natural occurances.

the science clearly shows that we've increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

the science also shows that the increase in CO2 will cause the planet to retain heat -- much like a blanket you put over you at night helps you retain your body heat.

while humans have lived on this earth for 200,000 years, it's only in the last few decades that their numbers have increased to the point where it's becoming very difficult to feed them all.  It's not that the human species will be wiped out if there is dramatic warming.  However, with less food available, there will be food shortages, and people dying.  Our society has evolved to make use of the planet with the weather conditions that exist today.  Studies have shown that if it gets either significantly hotter, or colder, then food production will be reduced, and earth will not be able to support the current population.

clearly warming, and cooling, can be natural.  However, the warming that we're currently experiencing is not.  The problems in Darfur are thought to be the result of Global warming, which caused drought, and forced people to migrate to Darfur, where there was food.  In the future, you'll see much more of that, and much more violent wars as a result of droughts, and lack of food.

  9. I do not know if anybody can honestly say one way or the other when it comes to climate.

  10. Well,the clikmeates arer changing.

Its affecting everyone it's melting the ice and stuff.

Yes it will eventually change Earth.

if this keeps going on,i beleive.

  11. Climate HAS changed in the past (r/t changes in solar output, changes in earth's orbit, meteorite strikes, massive volcanic eruption that spew large amounts of dust, etc...).

Scientists are certain that recent changes are caused by mankind's activities and the greenhouse effect.[1] Just because something has one cause in the past, doesn't mean that it must always have that same cause. There are instances in the past when global warming was caused by CO2 from submarine volcanoes. Today, the climate is changing because of greenhouse gases from anthropogenic (man made) sources.

Edit: Question for Dr. Jello: You often claim the there is no climate change, or that global warming ended in 2007 (or 1998?!?); does this make you a “Static Climate person”?

  12. I can't believe this! I totally agree! Did the cavemen start the ice age? No. I think global warming is supposed to be happening. We are, though, making it go faster by burning fossil fuels. But I think everyone is making it into a bigger deal than it is...thanks for asking.

  13. The Static Climate people are no different then the Flat Earth Society people.  Both ignore science for personal beliefs.

  14. i guess yeah the climate is changing cause but it would anyway its just going faster

  15. You're absolutely right.  The Earths climate has always been changing.  It's just the latest beliefs which is more like religion than science that proclaims that the climate is changing because we have been sinful.  These people don't use science, they are political activists trying to convert others to their religion.
