Does anybody believe in life other than life on Earth?

As my science teacher recalls, there are billions and billions of other galaxies existing, and these have to have planets, right? I mean, somewhere way, deep deep deep into outer space, where scientists just can't reach, there are either people way like us or way different than us that exist and are trying to reach us too. I just think the whole topic is very interesting.

  1. I believe there is life, but not another race of being like ourselves.

  2. I agree with most of the answers here - provided that this universe is continually expanding or so we believe - it is hard to say that there are no form of evolutions happening as new galaxies or planets are developed.  It is also true that extra terrestrial beings do not necessarily need ambient temperature or oxygen to strive like us.

But as far as we know, there are countless numbers of galaxies each with many stars and most likely planets within them.  What are the possibilities that we are the only one.

So as far as I believe we are not alone.

And the topic is interesting because when you talk about space or the universe the whole topic just brings up so many questions that you can think of.

Let's just hope that whatever or whoever they are, there is no hostile beings =D

  3. i agree with you. For all we know there coukd be people just like us learning about us. Or like you said, there could be weird little alien peoples

  4. we can't tell but i think it's alot of stuff out there its way too big not to be something out there

  5. Yes I do, and I also believe that there are parallel and nearly parallel (behind or ahead of us) universes which will prove themselves the only median by which we will be able to "time travel" as the "nearlly parallel" universes will exhibit both exact replicas of our past and our future.

  6. I think its virtually impossible for there NOT to be life beyond our planet..

  7. Currently, scientists believe they are very close to finding life outside of earth. They have a lead on this planet that is in another solar system. It is in a habital zone, meaning it isn't too close to its star/sun for the surface to be molten lava and not too far away. There is another planet like this one but they predict that the greenhouse gasses of that particular planet is too much for life to form. In all probability this key lead,Gliese_581_d,  will be a waterworld. It is much bigger than earth and what comes next is sending off a machine to take pictures. There is very much a possibility this planet can exhibit life. Considering how vast the universe is, this planet is pretty close to earth...only 14.7 lightyears away (or it could've been around 40).

In other news, three superearths have been found. They revolve around a sun/star and are much bigger than earth. With such discoveries, my guess is that it'll take only take a hundred more years or two/three to make contact. And billions to actually peacefully coexist with other alien lifeforms.

Personally, I think it's more than possible. It's like creating mold. You just need the right ingredients and you get life. For planets the point is the same, though far far more complex.

  8. Yes. I think it's likely that either there is right now other life forms or in the past.

  9. I think about this every night!  It is the most interesting thing ever.  I think there has to be.  we don't even know where space ends. WTF is out there?? is it just an imaginary force feild like wall that we can't cross? and if thats the case whats on the other side of that wall?  Philosiphers say that space is forever expanding...ok soooo whats in the area that it is expanding to? nothing??

and what if there were other peopl that were to us (in size) that we are to like bacteria?

sorry I went on like that. I just can't stop thinking about it...I know I sound really weird, but I am just bored a lot so I look at the stars and think.

If you know any answers to my questions let me know. lol.

  10. I do believe in the subsistence of ET beyond our globe. Fair enough those other galaxies have to have planets. In a view of the fact that a single sun could hold nine planets among which earth is the one that is nourishing a superb life. We should not forget that Sun is also a star among billions. In the same way if we consider every star in this universe contain their own planets. The total number of planets would be uncountable as there is billions and trillions of stars in the superficial space. And it is pretty much sure that one of the planets besides earth among those uncountable planets must hold a life.

Another fact is that it is not essential that all the planets must hold oxygen and water for the sustainable life. Infact the anatomy of ET could be such that they could survive in other atmosphere and may intake other form of gas to support their life and perhaps could not in the atmosphere of oxygen.

  11. 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone.

100 billion galaxies in the visible universe (there could be more beyond our visible range).

Frankly if we are the only life in all of that it is both lonely as h**l and frankly scary (I mean what if we f--k up and kill ourselves or an asteroid zaps us...to think we are all that is and the rest is rocks and gas....ack).
