Dwain Chambers has been released by Super League strugglers Castleford.
Chambers, who twice failed to break through into gridiron during his two-year ban for taking a banned designer drug, experienced his first taste of rugby league in a specially-arranged reserve-grade friendly against York.
He spent 39 minutes on the field in four spells and clearly struggled to cope with the stamina needed to play the 13-man game before eventually retiring with a shoulder injury.
Chambers insisted, however, that he enjoyed the experience and remains serious about carving out a career in the game, despite recently celebrating his 30th birthday.
"He's a 30-year-old with a 20-year-old's body, at least for rugby league purposes," said a spokesman for the athlete.
"He has done remarkably well in four weeks but really needs another six to nine months to get to grips with rugby league."
