  1. I do capoeira, and as this first answerer said it really blends to two worlds.  There is the show aspect which is really a lot like a dance, with you and your partner doing sequences or coordinating on the spot if you two have a good flow, it's really fun.  Then there is the MA aspect when we actually use martelo and rasteira and stuff, which is really different.  Plus you can just start breakdancing for fun if you know capoeira, lol.

This other guy here is right too, Jean Claude did ballet, dunno what MA he did though.

  2. jean claude van damme was and as far as i know still is a very talented ballet dancer..he started that when he was a kid.. dont know if he started martial arts first though

  3. Some famous martial artist were trained in dance including Bruce lee. Dance  and Taekwando are one of those things we can do the rest of our lives. I think one complements the other. Let some of the other answerers see how many famous martial artist they can find that were or are were dancers. Would be fun to find out just how many.

  4. Have you ever tried Capoeira?  It's considered a martial art with a foundation in dance.  Back in Brazil, it was first invented by slaves to defend themselves, but to avoid punishment for practicing self defense, they'd mix in their moves with a form of dance to let their masters think they were just having fun, as opposed to planning a revolt.

As for doing dance SEPARATE from martial arts..... no.  I was strictly a martial arts guy, but I mentioned Capoeira because it kinda blends those two worlds together.

  5. I have done Ballet and Modern jazz and I must say when starting Karate I noticed it is definatly a different flow of energy.  Also, oddly enough,  I felt very uncoordinated when learning Katas.  I have been doing Karate for years now and don't feel uncoordinated anymore however, I will never forget how oddly uncoordinated I did feel in the beginning.

I don't dance as I used to and often wonder if anyone would use Ballet as an added training method.

People mention Yoga, and lifting weights and swimming and such, I have never heard people mention ballet which in my opinion sounds super awesome!

Would you tell me, have you felt as I and/or do you feel that way now?

  6. Me .. no.

    Elvis Presley.. Yes !

  7. aikido is a form of dancing in a way

You learn to guide or partner(your attacker) to the ground

and if you know dancing fits prefectly with aikido because you will have balance cordination and control and since you know already a martial art then you prob know the concept of martial art so it will probably be easier for you
