  1. Well, I thought that your complaint would be people making nasty and rude comments.

But I wonder what your definition of "staring" may be.  A glance?  A look?

What are people supposed to do?  When they see your child coming or your friend coming are they supposed to gasp and then turn away and shelter their eyes with their hands?

We are visual creatures.  We gain the most information about our surroundings through our eyes. It's natural for people to look at things that are interesting.

And personally, even as a woman, I think that Indian ladies are beautiful.  What's wrong with looking at something that's pretty?

  2. It's a human (and ape..and animal) reaction to fear the unknown or unusual - if you think about it, in the wild this would be a survival mechanism.  If something approches and you dont know what it is, its far better to stare, run, be wary than it is to stand and potentially put yourself in harm's way.

What you'll find is people with 'prejudice' are in fact animals who simply don't understand what they are seeing/hearing, and react in a natural way, and they are animals just like us.  So try not to be too hard on them - they're simply doing something they can't control.  If they get violent, or purposefully do these things to be cruel  then that's time to seriously think why they are so threatened by this person/belief/etc, and seek help for it.

  3. I guess so.

  4. It takes all sorts.  If we were all the same the world would be a very boring place.  If there was no prejudice people would just find something else to be nasty about.

  5. Lets see.... some stranger looks more than 2 seconds at someone and maybe makes some gesture, and suddenly you want to fly into a rage, bash them and sling insults because they are "ignorant".  I suppose that would somehow make everything all better, right??  WRONG.  Here is the out of control overreacting female flipping out over a look and or a comment.  What is this telling your child about YOU??  That maybe people do NOT have the right to their own opinions, and by gosh, YOU sure are going to let them know - and if you cant, then you will take it out on someone somewhere!

Want to stop the staring?  First of all, you need to really understand WHY you dislike it so.  Yes, it is rude, but my bet is that most people are not even aware they are doing it.  AND, you really do not know WHAT they are thinking.  SO, if their eyes stay on your son or friend too long, smile, and invite them to come meet them.  Just say "OH, well I thought maybe you wanted to come meet us the way you were staring and all".  Then follow it with "Sorry, I did not MEAN to be so RUDE".

Fighting fire with fire will work for some people some times, but fire is a dangerous substance, and not one most people can handle.  I say, if possible, KILL THEM with KINDNESS and put the embarrassment and unpleasantness where it belongs - back on them.  NEVER let your emotions and imagination get the best of you, and remember - - there is a very young person paying very close attention to your examples Mom.

  6. Well yes, it happens all the time to most people... those that are from ethnic minorities or those that are disabled or look different. I think it's really sad and it has always happened in our society and will unfortunately continue to happen in the future.

You need to also realise that not all prejudice is apparent. Some people face discrimination at e.g. work, when they get treated differently from the white male norm, even women experience unfair discrimination, and minority groups are not getting the rewards of promotion they deserve.

Hope ignorant people realise that they are being nasty to the most warm and intelligent people.

  7. Staring is not prejudice! it's human nature to stare at something out of the ordinary

  8. People are ****

    IGNORE THESE MUTHAFUCKAS
