I am sick of people fawning over military personnel like they are the savior of humanity; I respect them and thank them for their service. The way the American people treat them is rather sickening it’s almost become trendy to wrap them in the flag I don’t think you’re a hero just because you’re in the military. If you truly appreciate the troops treat them as people and help fight for their rights help them get the benefits they were promised when they enlisted. Does anyone else feel this way?

  1. As the mom of 2 service members; 1 Army, deploying Dec. 1 for Iraq, and 1 USCG, stationed in Morgan City,LA; I feel so very proud of my fellow Americans who say thank you for my children protecting them.

Our military are keeping us safe.

My son and daughter are willing to give up their lives for their country.

I agree that more benefits are needed for our military.

Saviors? I guess that depends on whether or not you have a family member who is serving the US of A.

  2. I agree somewhat with you. I would have to agree with what you said about not everyone who joins the military is a hero. I am about to go in the Marine Corps and I already had one lady call me a hero who found out. That is ridiculous. I haven't done ****. I believe that most people join the military not to serve their country but for their own benefit. (I could be wrong) The military is very beneficial in todays work place. I would say that some jobs would even look at military experience, with a certain job, as better than a Bachelors Degree because it is solid experience and experience is what everyone employer is looking for. You also get sign on bonuses in some branches and reenlistment bonuses. Why do you think you get these? So the military can get people to join. Not because so many people already want to serve their country.

On the other hand though it is quite amazing to see how many people come to sign up for the military when the U.S. is in serous trouble. (Pearl Harbor)

I agree again on fighting for freedom and not. However, I think troops should get just as much respect for fighting for others freedom than just Americas. In many respects more.

There is some terrible stuff going on in other countries and it is sad that we can't do anything about it. I am sure there are many who would love to take these scum off the earth.

  3. I agree, my husband is glad for the support, but he still is weirded out when strangers come up and give him hugs and stuff. lol Although, he is MY hero, he just got back from Iraq in october. And the benifits thing....boy you have to put up one big fuss to get anything from them! lol

  4. I think you are giving this topic far too much attention.  The military deserves to be treated with respect.  In the 60's they spit and threw things at the troops returning home.  I would rather have the fawning than the disrespect that was shown at that time.  In fact I will not tolerate it.  PC can go to h**l on this topic.

  5. I don't think people fawn over them.

I think the troops make their families proud, and there is nothing wrong with that.

    What is wrong is .

    1. religious cults protesting at military funerals.

    2. people spitting on military personnel

    3. left wing people supporting and demostating against there own troops aka Jane "traitorous may you burn in h**l" Fonda

They are called to serve and protect in a thankless job, much like nurses and teachers.

Now isn't it the unions who seem to fawn over Nurses and Teachers like the are gods. When all they are doing is there job also.

  6. I could be mistaken.

But I'm guessing you are not in the military nor have you ever been.

Military personnel and veterans are not the savior of mankind. That is Jesus Christ.

Were it not for our Armed Forces you would not be able to speak of them or anyone else for that manner, in any way that someone did not tell you to speak of them.

  7. I think someones jealous (jbach)

  8. i do

  9. I agree with the second half of your statement. but never forget .

It is the soldier, not the reporter,

who has given us Freedom of Press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,

who has given us Freedom of Speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,

who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag,

who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag

that allows the protester to burn the flag.

  10. I've got a few people in my family who have served from WWII to Desert Storm in the 90's to Iraq, none of them have been fawned over.

You are free to perceive things that way but how does that infringe on your daily life, worry about some real problems in the world.

  11. Yep.

It has gotten way out of hand.

Also, look at the awe and reverence for cops.

Forty years ago a cop was only declared "fallen" if he was killed in the line of duty, performing official functions.

I've recently seen an off-duty cop, on his private motorcycle, die after rear-ending a car, and be heralded as "fallen" by the local media.  This weekend, a cop was killed AT HOME by carbon monoxide poisoning, when he failed to heed common sense concerning the use of a gas-powered generator.   Once again, the "fallen" thing reared its head.

    Fallen?

Give me a freakin' break here.

  12. Since only 2% of the population serve in the military then I do think that they deserve to be treated like Heros.  But, I don't believe they should be considered the savior...as someone else already said, that's Jesus's role there.  Plus, most, not all, but most active duty, reserve, guard, and veterans don't want to be hero-worshipped.  As your last lines say...treat them as people and take care of them.  Abraham Lincoln promised to, "...to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan..."

One of my favorite quotes is: "A Veteran - whether active duty, honorably discharged, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life." - Author Unknown

  13. I do....I served while little georgie bush hid and dead eye d**k sought out five deferments.

  14. I think your miss interpreting other peoples treatment of this subject, Most don't see all military as hero's, just see them as protectors of OUR and the WORLDs Freedom. But I do believe it is time that the Military Personal receive the recognition they do deserve.

Vet-USAF / Military Brat grew up on base During NAM I have seen the mistreatment of the returning Military members FIRST HAND

AD: NATO is supposed to be the Worlds police but as a inept organization it is failing in it's duties, so the WORLD asks the US to do the job = SO if the world would stop asking we would stop being the WORLDS Police.
