Question:

Does anybody else here find themselves starting to fall out of love with UPS? ?

We have had a series of problems with UPS regarding International shipments in the past couple of months.

I know a lot of this is due to Customs regulations and what not, but I find that UPS isn't really customer service oriented in dealing with any problems on their watch.

Our average "express" shipment to Canada from North Dakota has been around 3-5 days. Slightly less than the "Next Day" pseudo promise.

Nothing can be perfect, but with the diminishing returns on our ship date promises, I wonder if they aren't cutting a few too many jobs or something or that ilk.

Anyone else having problems with UPS at their business? Or does the company I work for just happen to be really really lucky in being in a poor region of the country service wise?

  1. Well, actually, I use UPS a lot - involuntarily - because of my hobby and where I live.  I buy and trade a lot of gun parts and supplies and often UPS is the only option provided.  And recently I bought some kitchen equipment on Ebay.  I live in an isolated, rural area about two hours from a major city, with very few stores and businesses, so pretty much everything has to be shipped both ways through _somebody_.

I'd say there's problems with something like 2 out of 10 shipments.  As far as time, forget about tracking info online and delivery promises.  Delivery time estimates are wrong by exactly one day approximately half the time.

Fragile stuff?  FORGET about anything fragile. I'm going to have to file an insurance claim very soon about a bread machine that arrived with banged-up electronics.

Yes, a Teamster former union sister of mine tells me that UPS has been cutting a lot of corners, and not replacing workers who leave ("attrition"), and pushing the remaining workers much harder.  That would account for the decline in service quality.

You know who I've done VERY well with, surprisingly so, since they are everyone's favorite scapegoat?  The Post Office!  Their overnight record is very good.  And so far, for any item marked "fragile" and insured,  it's perfect.

I use the USPS whenever it's legal (gun stuff, remember?) for the item I am shipping or receiving.

And I can't resist the social commentary - the union representing postal workers is more militant in defending their members' working conditions than the Teamsters (UPS) are.  I really don't think that's a coincidence.

  2. Frankly Scarlett- *I like UPS*

He is always on time in my neck of the woods

  3. I had an answer for this that would have made you cry laughing. But I've decided NOT to tell you!!!

  4. We use UPS all the time and we rarely have any problems. Im still amazed they can get stuff to our customers as fast as they do. they maybe s***w up 1 out of 20 shipments. Most of the time something is not right its either an error on our part or the customer.
