I'm an old school rugger and I think line-out battles are far better when there is no lifting.

  1. Why is it better without lifting?

  2. Yeah I agree with you. Im a forward on my high school team.

  3. I like lifting in the line-outs. It's made the line-outs cleaner, and removed another reason to stop the game ie illegal lifting. But I do miss the good old days when you had a gun line-up jumper. John Eales was our man both before and after lifting, but I miss the days when he leapt on his own and won - inspiring!

  4. I've played both before & after the introduction of lifting.

Surely you must know that even in the days when lifting was illegal, it still happened all the time, it was called "supporting the player at the top of his jump".

Personally, I think it's one of the better rule changes to be implemented. It's cleaned up all the "niggle" in the lineout & made it a much cleaner contest for the ball.

Look at the farce scrums have become these days with the "Crouch, touch, pause, engage" rule. IMO it's made scrums more dangerous than the old days, when the two packs could stand back a metre or so & smash together on engagement.......... those were the good old days.......

I wish you Americans with a very limited understanding of the game would refrain from giving daft answers.......... Chad, if you're school age now, how can you possibly comment on what the game was like 20 years ago??
