Question:

Does anybody else think this?

I was thinking the other day about mass animal extinction. If humans were to survive, what would be their source of food?

Would we need to resort to cannabilism?

What made me think this was some idiot at work who for whatever reason thinks humans are far more important than protecting species. In Britain one would need a court order to remove bats from their property. He believes he should be able to kill them himself because they are invading his lavish habitat.

  1. Actually we could live without animals, but who would want to but a bunch of veggies.

  2. I`ll eat the bat befor eating you

  3. What makes you think that humans wouldn't be a part of this mass extinction?  If every animal were to be gone, so would we.

  4. There will be no mass extinctions because most animals can adapt to minor climate changes. There is no event or circumstance, short of an asteroid hitting earth, that could wipe out all or even most life.

Your coworker is right. Human life is far more important than animal life. This is why we experiment on mice and pigs to test our medicines. And he should be able to exterminate or remove vermin in his house at his own discretion. If an endangered animal attacked you and you had the means to kill it, would you? Or would you think "Oh, the poor dear, he must be hungry. Here you go, friend, my legs should make a nice meal." Yeah, HE'S the idiot.

  5. If there were no farmed animals humans would be able to grow more food in the fields than is produced by the cattle living there.

However at the rate the human population is expanding we are insidiously taking over the planet and more and more species are becoming extinct. Unless the global population is brought under control there will be humans living on the areas where food was previously frown, the world will become ever more polluted and we propbably would end up eating corpses.

Did you ever see the film  Soylent Green? if not I suggest you do. You would enjoy it.

Humans have been too successful for the good of other species, the planet and now their own good. We are like a cancer on the planet.

  6. I don't think I could live without animals I need red meat.

  7. When conditions come close to wiping out all other animal species, or food may not be our most difficult problem. We will be in lots of other troubles. To see that you will have to think through all the conditions that would have brought earth to that situation.

Preserving individual threatened species will not prove to be nearly as important as avoiding conditions that would cause them to go extinct.

  8. If the guy at your works just puts mothballs in his belfry, then he would get rid for the bats without touching or harming them.

As for the cannibalism topic:  If all the animals vanished then the people would also vanish in very short order, because any disaster or plague that got just things in the animal branch of the tree of life would get us to.
