Question:

Does anybody ever escape a police chase?

In all those TV shows where they show police chases no one ever gets away and the voice over person always says things like, "when you run from the law, it's not a matter of IF you will get caught, it's only a matter of when!". Is this true? That 100% of the time the person gets caught? This always annoys me because I think that there has to be a time when someone outran the cops somewhere. If this does happen, then is it censorship to pretend that it never happens or just social precaution (i.e. if people know that it's possible, then maybe more people would try it)

What if someone hooked up a huge gas tank to their car and could go thousands of miles without stopping?

Could someone get far enough away and then pull into a driveway and turn off the car while the cops speed on by?

What if someone cut a hole in the bottom of their car and escaped through the sewers?

I am aware that most of the people who try to run are drunken or drugged up idiots and that's why they get caught.

  1. Some get away but not many.  Even some of those that initially do are caught later on.  It is happening more and more than chases are called off for public safety when the officers know who the driver is and they can just arrest him at another time.

The amount of gas you have is irrelevant.  Too many squad cars and jusrisdictions.

If you get far enough away you could turn into a driveway...but the officers should be able to easily identify the car and realize it was you.

I would like to see you get into the sewers without being seen from a vehicle, especially if it is moving which is normally what occurs during a chase.

    Good luck with this one.

  2. If I can get close enough to get your license plate image on my dash camera, then even if you manage to outrun or evade arrest, I will come visit you at home and take you into custody, and even give you a free ride in a police car ALL THE WAY TO JAIL.

The old saying of "You can outrun the motor, but you can't outrun the Motorola" still goes.  There is always another officer somewhere down the road.

  3. People get away all the time.

They're not going to show you that.  Makes em look bad.

  4. They do get away sometimes but that doesn't make for very good television does it? lol.  I know that where I live if it gets too dangerous the police back off rather then get more people injured.

  5. They get away all of the time.

Here the department policy is if you do not know the person you are chasing has a felony warrant or you have seen him commit a felony you do not chase.

  6. not all people are caught, but they are very, very lucky individuls. with radios and helicopters, it's really pretty hard to get away from law enforcement.

  7. sometimes but they wont forget you.
