Does anybody have a defense against biblical creation?

i have this debate on wednesday. i took big bang theory's side. could you help me?

Expect a large number of long discredited misrepresentations, quotations from sources they haven't actually read that have been taken out of context and doctored, garbage about the second law of thermodynamics not allowing evolution to occur, and so on and so forth.

Remember big bang theory isn't part of evolutionary thoery, and nor is abiogenesis.  Evolutionary theory says nothing whatsoever about how life came about, whether there is or isn't a deity, or the origins of the universe.  It provides an explanation as to how such a large range of lifeforms arose.

Also expect confusion of carbon dating with radiometric dating, and the presentation of supposedly unreliable dates for marine organisms.  Marine organisms can't be reliably dated by carbon dating, as has been known for decades.

Your opponent will have little actual knowledge of what they're supposed to be talking about, and even less interest in gaining actual knowledge.  Their sources will be the usual "creation science" webpages.

You might enjoy mentioning that baby koalas are born with vestigial "egg teeth" on their jaws, for helping them break through parchment egg shells that never actually developed.  Despite the name, this is a bony outgrowth of the jaw, not a tooth, and they're common among the babies of egg-laying critters.  Evolutionary theory accounts for their pointless retention by koalas.  "Intelligent Design" doesn't, seeing as the structure is useless.

well, the fossil record is a good place to start if you are debating for evolution-i am not sure why the big bang theory is there, but we can talk about that too, although make sure you know that they are 2 separate theories.

big bang evidence: the universe is growing (they've measured the distance between 2 objects over time and the space is growing larger). the sound of the big bang can still be heard (look that up if you want more info). it makes sense really-all the rocks that were part of the explosion kept slamming into each other and because these rocks acted like play-dough, they grew into planets and asteroids. and over billions of years, this process formed earth!

now for evolution. biblical creationism states that the earth is no more than 10,000 years old. the fossil record has too many layers to be considered that young. 10,000 years ago modern humans were evolving. the dinosaurs were here 65 million years ago. carbon dating in the rocks shows that the earth is about 4.3 billion years old. evolution has never been proven wrong, no matter what creationists say. if someone says something was to complex to evolve, such as an eyeball, generally say it was puncuated equilibrium-it evolved really fast. it was like a growth spurt, and this has been documented many times. other things like the 2nd law of thermodynamics are not proof against evolution because for it to work, we would have to live in a closed system-however, we do not. the theory of irreducible complexity has also been proven wrong-just because something does not have all of it's parts does not mean that it cannot function in some way. for instance, a mouse trap without the spring can still work as something, such as a tie clip (famous scientists' joke against this theory)

specified complexity, by will dembski, the other main theory of how evolution can't work, is poor science, and has been disproven many, many times.

there is no proof that a gint boat existed to carry all the animals.

take your pick-there is a lot of evidence against biblical creationism. go to google and type in evidence for evolution and stuff-a lot will pop up.

well you could run into some problems with arguments if the person doesn't believe that the Bible refers to "days' in Genesis, but rather "time frames."  just a heads up.. most people agree that that portion of genesis was mistranslated in Hebrew to English...

The question has too many very large issues (and sub-issues) to have a two paragraph debate!

But, being a firm believer in the existence of god, and alo the teachings of jesus, let me say this - What is described in the Bible is only an interpretation of some written mattre handed down to us through the ages, and we can never be sure what exactly were those original words (or facts). As you know, interpretations by humans have a great defect - they are influenced by what they see (The eye of the beholder!)

If you believe Adam existed about 5000BC, then you are wrong - oldest remains of a human found so far dates back to some 27000 years. And whom did Cain marry after he killed Abel? (I don't believe the book of jubilees either)

The bible has no evidence supporting that God came out of no where and made the universe in 6 days. The big bang atleast has some evidence supporting it. Like galaxies that have red shifts, showing that the universe is ever expanding.

What do you believe? Debate is my favorite thing in the world since in elementary school. Defense your point against your weakest point for that you'll show them that you've given them no chances. Do you homework and discuss with your team.
