Does anybody have any good fishing tips for bass?

I'm in a fishing derby for bass and Ive got coompetition. Every year I always get a prize winning fish but at the last minute, someone gets a fish a couple oz over me. I'm starting to get sick of it. I know derbies are for fun and I respect that but this year I want to come on top! Please help me!
