I just got a cat and I know that I really, really need both treats, and toys. Does anybody have any suggestions on what a six year old cat would like? My cat is not an outside cat, and is very lazy :)

  1. get a lazer pointer, even my lazy cats get  a work out with it !

  2. lazer pointer or flashlight is a great toy, just point it all over the house and the cat should chase it....my cats love those soft treats that are flavored like shrimp.....another good toy is the little fake mice that have catnip on the inside, should get the cat curious....most toys require that you interact as well so dont be lazy yourself.

  3. cats at almost any age love the cat toys with catnip (you'll know if its the good kind cuz you'll be able to smell it) also i would buy a few tease poll toys, they are like a long wand with feathers on it. (some will sometimes have crinkles mixed in) you can find those at any local pet store like Petco. As for cat treats, i have found that most of my cats love Temptations. Each cat has its own likes so i would try even crumbling up a small piece a paper in a ball, that can even be fun for them. Hope some of these will help you.

  4. Ha, same with my cat.

    Best cheap bets are:

    1. Crumple up a ball of Tin foil, see if your cat will bat around with that.

    2. Buy some catnip and put it in a sock and sew it up then stick it in your cats face and then s/he will go crazy.

    3. Of course, get a very long piece of string and run around the couch with it so your cat will chase it when it goes out of view around the couch.

    4. Laser point, for about 2 bucks. Cats will either love it or hate it. But if they love it, it's a blast.

    5. Scratching post. Do what I did. Get some old carpet wrap it around some wood and put it on a post.

    6. Put a bunch of random boxes around so they end up exploring them and making them their own.

    7. Buy one of the toy fishing poles with a toy on the end. You could just make your own with string and a stick if you googled it.

    8. If you want to buy something, some toys are, an electronic laser pointer that moves around so you don't have to do the work.

    9. Buy a toy that hangs on your door and is a conveyer belt with a string attached to it. My cat LOVES this.

    10. There are these weird DVDS with bird sounds that cats apparently like.

  5. try balled up paper.  you can also try dragging a shoelace in front of it.  if there is no interest in these cheap materials, you have eliminated certain kinds of toys to get.  catnip mice, feather toys are always possibilities if your cat is passive.

  6. Go to Catdancer.com. This toy is inexpensive and some of my cats loved it. I would close the one end in the cupboard and the cats would jump to catch it. It's at many pet stores. I don't give my cats treats. They have never really liked them.
