  4. I only know from tv....and from what I hear from that is it even possible to find a place that cheep"

    Look in the obituaries

    Word of mouth

    Bulletins up

Call all managers of all apartment buildings

    Look in classified ads

right place at the right time

ask everyone and I mean everyone if they know of an apartment for rent.

Listen to conversations...if you overhear someone say they are moving out of town or just moving or someone mention  to someone else that someone they know is moving or died etc then ask them about the apartment.

  5. For $800 a month, you might need to find someone looking for a roommate.  Check out Craigslist listings in NYC.
