I just bought through Craigslist, a tamron AF 70-300mm 3.5-5.6. It looks like an older version of what available right now. I tried to find information about this lens on the internet I could not find one. The information available are mostly for the newer version, the one with 4-5.6 max aperture. Does anybody have any information about this lens ? is this lens better than the current model ? When it was released ?

I find the image is quite sharp even at 300mm (better than canon 75-300 non-is consumer lens).

Thanks.

  1. It's a slightly faster version than the f/4-5.6 that I've got, but a 70-300 isn't really a great indoor lens anyway, so speed has never been an issue for me when using it shooting sports and rodeos.

In general, I've found Tamrom lenses to be pretty good all around and wouldn't hesitate getting another one if it fit my needs.

You might want to poke around on Tamron's site (listed below) and see if you can find any information.  In my experience they've been pretty responsive if you send them a question.
