Does anybody have mac drivers for dcr-dvd403? If so, where can I get them?

iMac doesn't recognize Sony video camera.

  1. Generally, there are no "drivers" for DVD based camcorders to connect to computers - Macintosh or otherwise. And of the drivers that do exist, they do not work very well...

    DVD camcorders were not designed to have the video edited or uploaded. I wish the camcorder manufacturers would stop making them.

    Since you have an iMac (and I will presume it is a recent one), NEVER ever put a miniDVD in a slot loading optical drive.

    You have two choices...

    1) Get an external drawer loading DVD optical (connected using Firewire - I like the LaCie drives). You will then rip the DVD with something like Handbrake.

    2) Get an analog/digital bridge from Canopus

    Then using the analog AV cables that you would normally use to connect the camcorder directly to a TV or VCR, connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge - which is connected to the your iMac using Firewire. Import the video with iMovie.
