I must admit your question was driving me crazy because I know that I have seen that plant before. After much online searching and digging through I don't know how many books i believe that I have found it I believe that the plant you have is Haworthia baccata. Wow. That is an amazing plant!

It appears to be a succulent, but that doesnt really narrow it down much.

It also looks like it might need a larger pot...

If you are going to repot it or divide it up or anything, best do it sooner rather then later because the best time to repot this type of plant is at the end of winter/start of spring (although Im sure you already knew that)
