  1. Width and thickness must be taken into account to compensate for a persons weight.

But if you have a hard time paddling then yeah it might be too small for you.

  2. It is small for you , i would go for ethier a thicker board or get a longer one also if you go to a surf shop most of them have a size chart and a weight chart that show you what type of shor or long board is best for you. but if your sinking it or not padeling smothly its  to small.

  3. That's actually a pretty beefy board.  I'm 5'8"/170 and ride a 6'3", but I had it made little wide to make it easier to paddle.  Surfboards are not actually supposed to be able to "float" you.  They stay above the water  when you ride them because they are hydroplaning. You may need to play with your positioning on the board when you paddle.  Small changes in where you lay can make a huge difference in your paddling efficiency.

  4. Since you are around my height, but a bit heavier, the thickness of the board and its distribution are probably the reasons for it sinking.  The length and width are ok, but the thickness and its distribution definitely make a difference on its flotation.  Having surfed with heavy set surfers for many years, I found that the boards that work for them the best, are those that are shaped by shapers who know how to shape for heavy set surfers.  Ben Aipa comes to mind.  It's best that you look around and ask people who are around your size about the floatation of their boards and who the shapers are.  I am pretty sure you'll get valuable feedback.
