The Dei ethnic group are a vanguard group of Bassa that settled Liberia in waves. The Bassa (Dei, Bassa, Kru, Krahn, Grebo), also referred to as the Kwa-Speakers, can trace their historical origins to Mozambique in pre-dynastic times.
