Our builder told us that new Sod has to be watered 2 times a day for 45 mins in each spot. This sounds like a lot to me. Anybody know how often it should be watered?

Plus will the sod be ok for now. We don't move in for another week and the sod as already been put in. Nobody is watering now, will it be ok?

  1. Unless your in some area that gets frequent rain it is likely to die off unless it gets some water.  The frequency and duration of watering depends on size of the plot and how you are watering it.  If your standing there with a hose and it's a 1/2 acre plot then I can see it taking 45 minutes, but once a day should be fine.

  2. Keep it from drying out. Once it has rooted it doesn't need that much water, but early on it needs a lot. Luckily cooler weather is coming so you won't need to water that much in September and later in the fall.

  3. You need to keep new sod damp, I think your builder gave you correct information. If nothing else, make the trip once a day to water it.

  4. 1.  Listen to your builder!

    2.  Get over there and  water it or it will die!  It has no root system!
