Does anybody know any thing about hooking up speakers to a computer?

It goes deeper than that we know how to hook up the speakers and everything except i don't know what happens with our speakers but sometimes (like when we rearranged our desk or this time moved) when we disconnect the wires from the modem and reconnect them later the speakers don't wanna take or i don't know how to explain it but they turn on fine when you plug them in the computer they make the noise and everything but they just don't make any noises. can anyone help?

the speakers are EV Sonic XS if that helps windows vista home premium is the modem.

Are you trying to say they make one noise, but no more after that?  Click on the speaker icon on the tool bar.  See if mute is checked.
