  1. I think you have three resources (on a federal level at least) to help save your cave.

If you can find some record of the cave's use as a hideout for slaves or as part of the Underground Railway, the National Trust for Historic Preservation would be very interested in helping you save this landmark. They are the first link below and have a very well done website.

From an environmental angle I would approach the Department of Natural Resources (on the state level first), the National Park Service and even The Nature Conservancy. All three of these will have a keen interest in the value these caves play in the regional ecosystem and what merit there is from a conservation perspective.

  2. Your question is odd.  You claim you know of a cave that "nobody knows about" but that "alot of people have memories of".  Those statements seem contradictory.  But, nevertheless, you should notify the press.  A story about the cave and local interest might generate some pressure on the landowner while you notify slower acting governmental agencies.

  3. IS IT YOUR LAND ,IF SO NO PROBLEMS, BUT IF IT IS OTHERS PEOPLE PROP. iDONT" THINK THERE IS MUCH YOU CAN DO W/OUT A HISTORICAL MEANING TO IT....  BUT I HOPE I'M WRONG "CAUSE I CAN THINK OF SOME FUN I HAD YRS AGO EXPLORING

  4. You could contact the national conservation society and express your concerns. But, chances are this cave holds NO historical or biological singificance. For example, if it was used by indain tribes for cerimonial burial...it could be placed on a protected list. Or if there was a stream running through it that contains a unique or endangered species.

Because someone lost their virginity there, or smoked their first joint there does not make it significant enough for the national government to pay for it's protection. Otherwise every hole would have a fence around it and a tour guide telling you about it.
