What is the difference between Naiads and Water Nymphs? What is the difference between Dryads and Tree Nymphs? What is the difference between Satyrs and Fawns? Why would Aphrodite, the 'prettiest' goddess, marry Hephaestus, the 'ugliest' god, if she was just going to have many many affairs with Ares? I mean I know gods have many affairs, but why even marry Hephaestus?

  1. Zeus anticipated that all the Gods would fight over Aphrodite, so he married her off to Hephaestus, who was the sturdiest of the Gods. He was delighted with his luck and made his new wife a Golden Girdle. (Which was bad, because no one could resist her when she was wearing it.) She, on the other hand, was disgusted with her husband, which led her to have affairs with Ares.

The ancient Gods were not in any way "pure". They were like humans, but with immortality and power.

  2. Check out these websites they will help you tell the difference between Naiads and Water Nymphs.

  3. First. Aphrodite married Hephaestus because of an agreement. Hephaestus, being so ugly and despised by Hera, his mother, was angry. He made a golden throne for Hera, and she sat on it. Then she realized that she couldn't stand up again. So the gods called on Hephaestus to remove the 'curse' and release Hera. So Dionysus, gave him wine until he became drunk and Dionysus carried Hephaestus back to Mt. Olympus to release Hera.So Hera was released on the condition that Aphrodite, the most beautiful goddess, becomes his wife.

Next. Naiads and water nymphs. Naiads are basically water nymphs also, but Water nymphs is the general classification. Naiads fall under the category of Water Nymphs. Naiads are the water nymphs of fresh waters like springs, streams and brooks.

Dryads and Tree Nymphs. Dryads are spirits of the trees. Like the previous paragraph, tree nymphs or wood nymphs is the general category. Dryads fall under them.

These nymphs do not die, unless the source or the place where they belong (i.e. a stream) dries up or a tree is cut down.

Last. Satyrs and Fauns. fauns are untamed spirit of the woodland. One difference between them and the satyrs is that the satyrs usually have human feet but fauns have goat hooves. Satyrs are followers of Dionysus and are also goat men.

  4. Ok, I am greek and I love it when someone wants to know our mythology. First of all, you have to know just one simple thing, a God is a God, He can do anything it pleases Him. Also, in greek mythology Gods acted more like humans, meaning that they could easily love, hate, revenge, cry, feel things anyway. The difference is that they where immortal. You can check this:

Now, about the dryads, in Greek mythology, the dryads are female spirits of nature (nymphs), who preside over the groves and forests. Each one is born with a certain tree over which she watches. A dryad either lives in a tree, in which case she is called a hamadryad, or close to it. The lives of the dryads are connected with that of the trees; should the tree perish, then she dies with it. If this is caused by a mortal, the gods will punish him for that deed. The dryads themselves will also punish any thoughtless mortal who would somehow injure the trees.

You see, sometimes the same thing can have many different names.

    I hope i helped you a little.

  5. well i don't know the difference between the nymph questions but a satyr is half goat half man and a faun is half deer half man duh. and aphrodite had many suitors so Zeus chose for her, and she didn't like that he was so ugly so she did what gods tend to do be unfaithful to their spouses. I mean Zeus isn't exactly a good role model look at all the mortal the was tempted by, no wonder Hera was such a witch to Hercules. please answer http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  6. I'm not sure how to answer the difference questions but  know that because Zuse arranged the marriage between Aphrodite and Hephaestus. Everyone wanted to marry Aphrodite so in order to prevent chaos he choose Hephaestus because he was a kind and gentle man. Unfortunately Aphrodite was vain and self centered and believe she deserved a hansom man. She saw the outside rather than the inside.

  7. Why do God's do anything?  Because they can.  Read and study.  Greek mythology is very interesting and if you pay close attention you will see a very close resimblance to the Bible.  The Bible is a mock up of Christian versions of the mythologies and religions already in existance.
