Well what I have heard and believe is that Area 51 is a military design base where the military is designing new weapons, ships, and other assorted things. They keep it a secret of what they are doing in there because they don't want the enemy to find out of any new missles or new weapon innovations. It is because of this "secret" that people have began the UFO and Alien stories.
