My grandfather came here in 1922, and before he left he paid the government to take his title. this is what I have been told by my mother, after he arrived here with my grandmother he went by Willy Reddies.

  1. I find William Reddies and wife Emma who are living in South Dakota, in the 1930 census, and who shows 1922 as his year of immigration.  I don't see another William/ Willy Reddies listed, although that isn't carved in stone. Actually, he was a stone cutter per the census.

A friendly suggestion.. I would VERY much take the family story with a grain of salt.  It simply makes no sense. Years of experience in genealogy shows that numerous families have stories about how they came, being of "nobility" in the old country.. and when researched, most of these turn out to be inconsistent with actual records.

Apparently he and wife Emma were married in Germany.. they both show the same year of immigration.  If you can define his year of death.. you should locate his death certificate to see what it indicates about the exact place of his birth.
