  1. How you get a job as Conductor these days is by going to school and getting a diploma. Back in 1958 I hired on as a Brakeman for the CNR, with my low seniority I was called a headend brakeman, therefore I rode in the Engine. After I acquired seniority and  experience I got to be rear end brakeman then I rode in the caboose. I was also a spare Trainman on passenger trains. I never liked the idea of trying to please people on a train especially the rude and ignorant people. Most brakemen by the time that they had enough seniority to work on Passenger trains also had the qualifications to work as Conductors. I preferred to work on Thru Freight trains and Wayfreights. Even though I was qualified to work as a Locomotive Engineer or Conductor I chose not to. I always bid on jobs that I liked and when a Conductor was sick the Crew Dispatcher would ask me to be Conductor for the trip. That was the only time I worked as a Conductor. I also worked as a Yardman and Switchtender when they were short handed. This sort of sounds like a Resume. LOL.
