Depending on which message board you want to join, most (if not all) require you to register with a valid email address.  Somewhere on the front page of the forum (message board) you will see a link asking for you to log in, there may also be another link just to the right or left of that link that says simply register.  Follow the register link and follow the instructions.

Some boards may also request some personal information (i.e. credit card number) so you must be careful in which type of board you wish to join and what type of information you provide.

Don't forget most boards use cookies. Though the cookies they use are normally harmless, there are some (message boards)that may attempt to use more invasive cookies or even a Trojan horse attack.

Best advice: Know what your joining and be vigilant to avoid an attack or id theft.

Message boards can be useful and a lot of fun so enjoy.
