Does anybody know how long a tourist visa to India takes to arrange?

I want to travel from the UK in March but I'm unsure of the time scale.

There is currently a 2 month back log for visas you need to make an appointment and travel to the embassy in person.  You will need to take your passporrt in one day and collect it the next.  They will not issue a visa unless you have travel arrangements booked already with a confirmation as proof.  But expect a 2month wait so March may be pushing it as if you book a holiday and cant get a visa you dont get the holiday refunded bit of a catch 22 unfortunatly.

Where in the UK do you live?  Visit your local Indian Embassy although get there in the morning as it can take a few hours to get processed.  Once its done, you're good to go.

There is a postal application services which requires you to send off your passport, which is a load of agg!

Apply in February If you do not want to stand in a queue for hours. The really busy time for India Visa departments is around October.  If you are applying by post remember to pay by Postal Order cheques are not accepted and send a return envelope as advised on the application form.

you can go to the High Commission in the Aldwych & get a same day service...or allow about 3-4 weeks for a postal application to come back to you...but it will usually be back to you beforehand.

get the post office to check your form as it will be rejected if there are any mistakes...also remember they dont take personal cheques!!

p.s. dont know if you know...but you can download the visa application forms from the internet.
