how come it says "your call cannot be completed as dialed" before i even finish punching in the international phone number? im calling from a land phone and i have international calling included in my plan so i dont need a phone card. but why does it say that? am i supposed to wait for some cue after i punch in country code or something? does the star (*) or pound (#) buttons have any effect?

  1. dial 011, then the international phone number.  Example, if you want to call someone in Santiago, Chile, you dial:

    011 (international prefix)

    56 (Chile's country code)

    2 (Santiago's "area code")

    5551234 (the home/business phone number)

  2. You also need to know that when calling to countries where the national area codes start with a zero, you need to omit that zero when calling in from overseas.

For example, if you were trying to call the London, U.K. number (020) 7222-1234, then from the U.S. you would dial it as 011-44-20-7222-1234 (where 011 is the American prefix for an international call, and 44 is the country code for the U.K.).

  3. You need to dial 011 to get out.

  4. Depending on the country most have a 2-3 digit number you have to dial first then 011 before you put in the actual phone number.

  5. First you need to dial 011 followed by the country code, city code, then the actual phone number.  (If you are calling from the USA).
