  1. The Uniden WIN1200 USB Phone is preconfigured to only work with Windows Live Messenger8.  That's how they sell it, and that is all you get (+ landline PSTN connectivity jack).

That said, it does have ability to make regular phone calls using your standard PSTN phone jack.  So, if you like the phones cordless functionality, then just buy another VoIP ATA box, configure the ATA for your favourite VoIP service and you are in business.

I have done this with a JOIP phone.  I got the JOIP phone for beta trial testing.  Now, I just use the PSTN jack to plug into my Linksys PAP2T adapter and use the JOIP cordless phone (Panasonic) to make my VoIP calls through the Linksys ATA.  It works great as a cordless phone (minus JOIP service).  Perhaps you can do the same with your WIN1200?

For Skype, try the D-Link DPH-50U USB Skype adaptor box.

Plug your WIN1200 into 1 USB port on your PC, plug the DPH-50U into another USB port on your PC, plug phone jack between WIN1200 and DPH-50U and you may get the best of both - MSN Messenger and Skype - both on your Uniden phone.....

Otherwise, maybe just buy a Skype CIT200 USB Skype phone from Linksys.  Then use Skype on one USB port and Windows Live Messenger8 on another USB port....
