Does anybody know how to say either to row or rowing in Italian?

  1. Italian has two verbs for "to row", one is "vogare" and the other is "remare".

    "vogare" is usually done by rowers in a competitive sports, or in a rowing machine at a gym.

    "remare" is done by somebody in a rowboat (as a leisure), or by lines of rowers in ancient Roman ships (called "triremi" because they had three orders of rows).

    The sport of "rowing" is called "canottaggio" in Italian.
