Does anybody know how to work the CLUE DVD game?

Question

I had the game, but it seems that I could never get it to work. I read the instructions thoroughly, but it would stay on the same area all the time, even when I would choose a different case. It wouldn't go further than a certain area. Does anyone know how to work it? I exchanged it for SCENE It! Movie edition. I would still like to go back and buy Clue DVD again, but I don't want to unless I know how to use it.

Here's a response from the game's creator, Rob Daviau -

"When a case first starts, most of the DVD menu options are not available. Players are basically playing standard Clue. They can move to a room and make a suggestion, just like Clue. After a few minutes, the inspector will interrupt play and tell you that the butler is now available for questions. The butler option should now be selectable. Now players have the choice of moving to a room and either making a suggestion or summoning the butler. As the game goes on all the options will slowly become accessible. Remember that you only do one of these choices on your turn.
