  1. its the last 8 or 9 numbers on the card thats you account number

  2. Is the card number a sequence of six numbers a space, then a sequence of 12 numbers?

If so, heres what they mean:

    first six digits:

digits one to four are unique to the card

digits five and six are the first two digits of your sort code

    second set of twelve digits

digits 1 to 4 are the rest of your sort code

the remainder is your account number.

If you memorise your sort code which is very easy to do, then memorise your account number which is just like remembering a phone number all that leaves is the first four digits -  memorise that and you can quote the whole 18 digit number in one go

    just recall the following

    Unique code (1234)

    Sort Code (01-23-45)

    Account Number (12345678)
