Does anybody know if Piranha's can eat people?

Hello, Hello, are you in there,

Dear one, in the right place, at the right time a school can easily, and have done many,many..... times eaten humans. There are dozens of species of piranha.( i.e. don't swim with them unless with an expert).

They rarely eat people to death. Avoid when known in present waters.

Piranhas can eat people, but there would have to be a lot of them. Once they get in a feeding frenzy, well, I think they can eat anything.

I saw on TV piranhas eat a whole capybera (a really large rodent, the largest in the world. it's about the size of a small pig) in less than a minute. I'm sure that they could eat a human!

Yes, they could in theory.  However, piranhas don't usually hunt large animals or people.  They are more of scavengers.  Unless you have a bleeding wound or something, it's unlikely that they will harm you.

yep if u dip your finger in for like 2 secs it will bite you alot on them though they will take chunks

Can, yes. Do. no. Most piranhas are fish-eaters. One of the routines used by boats that carry tourists back and forth is to have a "fouled propeller" on the trip back. The mate jumps into the water to free it. Tourist who have seen piranhas in the area are impressed and the tips are larger than they would have been otherwise. Most piranhas won't bite unless you are removing a hook from their mouths or bothering them somehow. Black piranhas are supposed to be dangerous, though.

my mum was born in Guyana and saw them all the time. They are more at risk from people eating them. shes never heard of them eating people. shes even seen the big black piranha. crocodiles are more likely to eat people.
