Does anybody know if there are ways to recycle DVD/CD discs that are not RW? like in shredding to be useful?

Have you thought about using them in a craft project? you can make cool picture frame Christmas ornaments if you put 2 photos back to back to be seen through the hole in the CD between two CD's shiny side out. Also, I've always wanted to cover a wall with them, shiny side out.  The possibilities are endless.
