Does anybody know if you can travel by Sea to Greece from UK as opposed to flying? My dad is scared of flying?

I'm getting married in Summer 2010, in Greece, my dad is scared of flying so I wondered if there was anyway he could travel by sea to Greece from the UK at all?

Whereabouts in Greece are you getting married?

Io is correct for Zante (Zakynthos) the shortest of the trips - Rhodes will be a VERY long time for him to travel.

There also used to be a bus 'The Magic Bus' which went from London to Athens ,,, but that was many years ago.

Can't your dad ask the doc for sedatives and fly - or go to one of the airports in UK where they do 'fear of flying courses?' I also hate flying but know it's the easiest way to visit my parents in UK - so I grin and bear it! (with the help of a few mini bottles of wine!)

Boat from UK impossible and if he founds a merchant ship he would be bore to death. The best solution is to combine his vacations with your marriage.

He should start a week earlier and by stopping in 2 or 3 major cities on the way end up at Italy and take the Ferry to Patra.

Alternatively the whole family can take the same route and have some quality family moments before your wedding :)

The best way is to get a train until Italy and then a ferry from Venice or Ancona or Brindisi to Patra (Greece). No point in getting a ferry around Gibraltar and all the way across the Mediterranean, even if you can find it, which is doubtful.

You can buy a passage on board a merchant ship that will end up in greece ..but it means you have to stay on board and most of the time they get you to help on board not hard stuff but menimal jobs..untill you reach your destination.. i dont know how much it will be?or where to book it? if i where you i would ring the merchant fleet in england.or try a shipping agent they may be able to point you in the right direction..thats if you dotn find a tourist ship goign to greece..

London Venice by train

Venice Patra by ferry

patra killini by bus killini zakintos bay ferry

or patra pireas bay bus pireas rodos bay ferry
