Hello everybody,

I am involved in a scavenger hunt and need to find a picture of an Australian monument which features an Eagle clutching a sword in its hands. I don't have any idea where to start, but know it is in Australia somewhere. Any advice or assistance would be most welcome!

  2. An outside possibility is the following. This monument is Australian but isn't in Australia and the eagle isn't clutching a sword, but is impaled upon a bayonet, but perhaps it's what you're looking for. Oh, and it was taken by the Germans during WWII never to be seen again, but it may do in the absence if anything better. dohttp://www.ww1westernfront.gov.au/mont-s...

  3. Yes! The eagle is the state fauna of the Northern Territory, you can find the monument there - Djukbinj National Park from memory.

  4. There is the Australian-American War Memorial, I think it's an eagle atop a tall column.

I don't know if the eagle has a sword.

It's in Newstead Park on the banks of Breakfast Creek in Brisbane.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit vague on the details but I haven't been there for many years.

  5. that is a cheat!!!! win the tickets fairly!!!

  6. Hmmm... Not sure about that, Simon: here's the NT coat of arms showing the eagle, but it's not clutching a sword:http://www.aussie-info.com/places/nt/ide...

That monument sounds very war-like, and I seem to recall something similar from the First World War, but I don't know of any particular example.
