  1. I looked at some places in Hollywood.  You might like the Hollywood Hills.  it depends on your budget.

I would recommend living Silverlake.  That is my home until i leave it on wednesday.  It's quiet, affordable, convenient, hip, and just three miles from central-main hollywood.

But go for the Hills, if you want Hollywood.  AKA Hollywoodland.  Or, maybe even try North Hollywood, because it's closer than it seems.

  2. try www.craigslist.org for a bunch of available places and if you don't find anything, you can also make a free post.

  3. Unfortunately your list of conveniences is not likely to be found.  Here's a more realistic list that you'll likely find in Central Hollywood assuming you use Craigslist.com or WestsideRentals.com [requires a $65 viewing fee]:

    - 2 bedrooms

    - 1 bathroom

    - living area

    - kitchen with stove and refrigerator provided

    - wooden floors

    - no fireplace

    - no central air conditioning in older buildings; however, external a/c may be provided through a/c wall or window units

    - [high] speed internet connection is an option either via cable or satellite.

    - parking is very limited and may not be on the premises.  And if on the street, you have to ask if there is preferential parking which requires you to obtain a paid quarterly/yearly permit.

    - there are utility rooms which contain shared paid laundry devices such as washers and dryers

    - Many older buildings going back some 20 years have completed significant apartment renovations which entitled them to an "exemption" from rent control.  This "exemption" gives landlord at-will rights to evict tenants "without cause," and to raise rents well above the CPI of 5%.  So, ask prospective landlord(s) a simple question:  "Is the apartment governed by right control ordinances?"

The starting rent for the above-described 2-bedroom unit is around $2,000 and upwards per month.  If you do not like living in a multi-story complex [say 4-5 stories high], then you may want to check out listings in the Hollywood Hills [starting northward at Highland and Franklin Avenues and going eastward to Cahuenga and Franklin] which are single or two level bungalows.

And of course, there's the caveat:  once you live in Hollywood, you will not likely leave since there is truly a mystique surrounding Hollywood that keeps you from staying away too long!

    Good luck!
