Does anybody know of some potent relaxing herbs?

Can anyone give me a list (5-10) of some of the world's most potent relaxing herbs? I've been over-worked these past couple weeks and although I'm building muscle, I'm also way too tense to sleep comfortably. I live alone and have no friends who can massage me. I don't want advice about how to sleep better, just the list of herbs and maybe tips on how to use them. thx ; )

  1. Along with Valerian, I take Melatonin, it's not really an herb but it is a sleep aid. I have been taking this for years without any side effects, however, others have reported racing heartbeat and nightmares. I take it bout an hour before bed, and I go to bed when I feel tired.

You should be able to find it in the vitamin section of any store. Start with a low dose and work up till it's effective.

I have had black cohosh recommended to me also, but I don't have personal experience with it.

  2. peppermint is good for nervous complaints such as tension and insomnia. use it o make tea or essntial oil usedto flavor liqueurs. or a lavender& marjoram bath. 2tbsp almond oil 7 drops lavender oil &3 drops of marjorm oil mix together in bowl ad to bath while water running for relaxing

  3. Valerian Root was the original natural source of Valium - which is now a chemical product. It really worked for me when I was really keyed up and nervous. But be warned, it smells like year-old gym socks and that's why I will only take it in capsule form. "Tension Tamer" tea from Celestial Seasoning is also very good. Kava Kava was mentioned although I have not tried it.

  4. I don't have a "list", but I will share my favorites with you...  I'm not sure if you can still find this one on the shelves anymore, but I used to get Kava Kava for stress and it helped me a lot!  What I liked most about it was that it calmed me down, helped me to focus, but somehow seemed to give me increased energy at the same time.  It's not for everyone though.  A couple of other people I told about it that tried it said they didn't like it because it upset their stomach.  I took it every day with no side effects whatsoever.  My other favorite is simply a nice hot cup of calming tea (there are many blends, but I prefer chamomile).  I don't think it's a good idea to try to go with anything that's too "potent"... just because it could have some bad side effects.  A nice hot soak in some Epsom Salts would probably do you a world of good too, if you've been working out.  It helps the muscles relax.  And be sure not to work out too close to bedtime, as that can definately disturb your ability to rest and obtain a deep sleep.  There are other things you can do besides "take" something for it... like, learn some relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, yoga, meditation, etc.  But, if it's a "quick fix" you want... I suggest the "soak" and the "tea", and your daily dose of Kava Kava (but use responsibly!). There are no special instructions... just follow the directions on the package.  It's as easy as a daily vitamin!

  5. Marijuana but i don't recommend anyone use it.

  6. GOOD WEED , but be careful

  7. Valerian Root is an excellent relaxing herb..I have to agree about the smell though if you can get past that it works wonders. You can buy it in pill form at  just about any drug store.

  8. Marijuana

    Potpourri

    Vanilla

Rubbing alcohol in a bath tub will help your muscle soreness and tiredness although it is not an herb.
