  1. depends on what event you train for one key thing is you have to be flexible it will help with your stride and meaning you will go faster but if your doing long distance which is what i do and i run the 3200 the key thing is you have to mix in tons of quater mile workout with 1/2 workouts and also repeat mile workouts and plus toss in heavy miles i have worked up to doing about 60-70+ a week you should start off easy maybe a few mile a day then over time move it up but remember it takes time to become good i have running 2 1/2 year for my school and only now with my last year of high school coming up am i able to run a  2:05 1/2 4:33 mile 9:47 2 mile and a 16:22 5k

  2. Work on stress runs.  Set a certain distance for yourself and then run it as hard as you can, and as many times as you can.  Also you're going to want to work on a 'kick' for the end of your heat.  The distance from where you kick depends on your event, just be sure that you start sprinting as hard and long as you can towards the end.  (Distance kick is usually long fast stride, sprint kick is short, fast steps)

    Good luck!

  3. i have voted both of those answers as good answers, for they are very helpful.

speed is all about form really. as mentioned longer strides are best for sprinting in a distance race, but for the overall race as well. make sure your pumping your arms quite fast. how you land on your foot also determines how fast you go. when asking how to sprint i was told stay on the balls of your feet.

www.runnersworld.com has an article on the correct running form.

and i too secretly want to be an olympic runner. i am going into my sophomore year and have decided to step it up this year in cross country. i am even going to try my best to eat healthy for optimum performance. although right now i am not that good i am very determined to get good. i want people to notice me as a good runner too. maybe one day we will be on the olympic team! XD i am going to try my best to run year round starting after cross country season.
