  1. Tita Elda's Silvanas

    FOR CAKE CRUMBS:

    Ingredients:

    1/4 c. margarine

    1/4 tsp. salt

    1 c. sugar

    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

    1 whole egg

    1/4 c. milk

    1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour

    1/4 c. water

    Put all ingredients in a bowl and beat exactly 5 min. medium speed of your mixer. Bake in two nine-inch wax paper lined pans for 20 to 30 min. or until done at 350 deg. Cool then crumble. *SUBSTITUTE FOR CAKE CRUMBS IS LADY FINGER (store bought cookies)

    FOR WAFERS:

    Ingredients:

    6 egg whites

    1 tsp. cream of tartar

    3/4 cup sugar

    1 3/4 cup chopped cashew nuts

    In a big bowl, beat 6 egg whites + 1 tsp. cream of tartar until bubbles are fine. Add 3/4 c. sugar. Gradually beat till stiff. Fold in 1 3/4 c. finely ground cashew. Drop the mixture into cookie sheets lined with greased waxed paper ( by teaspoonfuls ) and bake at 300 deg. F for 25 - 30 min. or until brown. Cool remove paper.

    ICING:

    Ingredients:

    1/2 cup fresh butter

    1/2 cup margarine

    2 cups sifted powdered sugar

    1/2 cup fresh milk

    Put in a bowl: 1/2 c. fresh butter 1/2 c. margarine Beat high speed until light. Gradually add 2 c. sifted powdered sugar. Then add a tablespoon at a time, 1/2 c. fresh milk. (evaporated milk will do)

    TO ASSEMBLE SILVANAS:

    Get one cashew wafer, spread icing, top with another wafer, then cover both sides with icing. Roll in cake crumbs. Refrigerate before serving. * Make 1 1/2 recipe of icing one will not be enough.


  2. Ingredients

        * 1/4 cup butter, softened

        * 1/4 cup margarine

        * 1/2 cup powdered sugar or confectioners' sugar

        * 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

        * 75 g cashew nuts, finely chopped

        * 5 chocolate graham crackers, each cut into 3 pieces

        * 1/3 cup chocolate graham cracker, crushed

    Directions



          DO FILLING. Whip butter and margarine until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy and well-blended. Set aside about 1/4 cup for decorating. Mix in chopped cashew nuts.



          ASSEMBLE. Spread about 1 teaspoon butter cream on square Grahams piece. Top with another square piece to make it look like a sandwich. Repeat this procedure until you have 7 sandwiches.

      

          SPREAD a thin layer of butter cream all over each graham-butter cream sandwich. Cover sandwiches in crushed chocolate grahams.  Chill and serve..
