i need to find a place that sells sand that does not contain silicate for my freshwater stingray the silicate in the sand hurts the stingray

  1. Most aquarium shops sell aragonite or crushed coral. These are made of calcium carbonate.

I think you may be confused-- it is not the silicate itself that harms the rays, but sharp particles.  The glass that the aquarium is also silicate based, and you hopefully have no fear that the glass will kill your stingray.  The only other options besides silica sands would be calcium carbonate sands, like aragonite, crushed coral, or dolomite, all of which will send your pH through the roof.  Petco carries "sugar" sand, which is inert and fairly dense, but the grain is tiny, making it perfect for the rays.  Blasting sand could work too, but I would be a bit hesitant with the ray's skin.  Regardless of your sand choice, you will need to wash it VERY well prior to putting it in the tank, as it will leave a massive dust cloud otherwise.
