  1. A conditional permanent resident (“CR-1” or “CR-6” on “green card”) means that between 21 and 24 months after you become a conditional permanent resident (e.g., three months to one day before your status expires) you must file a joint petition with your spouse with documentation that the marriage you  entered into solely for immigration purposes.

    If the joint petition or a waiver is not timely filed then your conditional permanent resident status will automatically expire and you could be deported from the U.S.
