I know a lot about car stereos, subwoofers, amps, and stuff. But, the thing is I don't know what the heck a capacitator is for, or what it does.

  1. a capacitor is a great thing to put on your car stereo

altho people are saying it is a waste and takes ages to charge it, hook one up to your batery and mount it where u want it and let it charge with out been hooked up to your stereo do this for a week or so.

when its charged enough hook it all up and youl find there will be a low chance you will ever get a flat battery as this will supply power to the battery when the car is turned off,

i think its a great investment if you want a car stereo that pumps loud..... as others said the poor little batterys have no change to supply the needed power of over 1000watts

  2. The capacitors are used for any system over a thousand watts are greater they are just like car batteries and instead the amp snatching power from the battery it takes it from the capacitors. It saves on killing your alternator because your alternator sometimes can't keep up with power demand of your amplifier. That why the car lights dim and sometimes your car can cut off and you can't use any of your car accerioes in your car while stereo up loud......lol

  3. When your subs are hitting they are drawing power from your car every time they hit. A car battery was not made to do this. Over time it will damage the battery. Also your music will not play like it should since your battery can't produce what your subs require. A battery capacitor is charged by your battery and acts as a power storage area so your battery isn't constantly drained. Your music will sound better and your car will not be damaged. 1 farad (power rating of a bat cap) per 1000 watts. Better to have one than not.

  4. basically a cap is an aid that helps power your stereo system and puts less draw on the vehicle. When amps are played loud and certain notes that hit really hard, the amp will draw more current from the car. When that happens it draws from the battery and also the alternator that is charging the battery. The cap acts like a small battery and keeps reserve power in it. When the bass hits, it will Draw the extra needed power from the cap instead of the alt and bat. Usually having the extra power there doesn't hurt either. Most amps are rated at 14.4 volts for max power. When the car is running and the alternator is charging up to its full potential, you should have close to 14.4. A cap will help the voltage stabilize and allow the amp to produce the max power that it can. A cap isn't always need, but never hurts. The formula is a 1 farad cap for each 1000 watts you have. Hope this helps

  5. doesnt really help its jus a waste of money

  6. MDC you are a GOD! :D

    crapacitor. hehehhahahaha :D

    cripplecitor  maybe :-)

I forgot something to tell - I had broken down my car alternator two weeks ago. I asked again my friend after he repaired it - good automechanic - if i load my car with some high energy device (like 2000Watt audio system) if i could damage something. No. I could not. Car can easily handle power overloads without damage.

  7. A "crapacitor" is for wasting money.

A cap will not help your alternator by putting less strain on it.  It will actually put more strain because now the alternator has to charge the cap too.

Bottomline, if you have headlight dimming problems or any problems with your charging system you need to: upgrade you alternator to high output one, upgrade "big 3", upgrade to deep cycle battery.  That is the only way to fix an inadequite electrical system.

If you are looking for something that costs a lot of money and doesn't do anything then buy a cap.
