Question:

Does anybody know what kind of bug is it in the US Midwest that make rapid clicks?

We have the crickets with their chip.

And the cicadas that make the loud buzzing noise.

Then there's this bug that goes click really fast, like 500 bpm or something, but they are all a little different in speed. It's hard to find an analogy to help explain what exactly it sounds like, just clicks.

  1. Actually the cicada sound you are hearing that's just a buzzing sound is a male cicada. Not all cicatas make that sound. A female cicata on the other hand makes a fast clicking sound in return to the males buzzing sound. The different mating sounds of the cicada makes the genders distinguished.
