If you know what you're doing, use Bittorrent torrents and/or Limewire.

The key is to avoid virus producing activities, these activities are basic.

HOW TO NOT GET A VIRUS FROM EITHER OF THESE PLACES.

1. USE an anti-virus. AVG puts out a good free one.

2. Do not download executable files from either of these places unless absolutely neccesary, and never for music.  If you have to do so for some reason, treat everything to intense virus scanning.

3. Install a firewall, such as Zone Alarm. Make sure its popups for any automated blocking and such are disabled, or you will be quite annoyed in many cases

4. Switch to a Macintosh or Linux system if you can and are using Windows Vista. XP is fine for use, but Vista isn't. You will notice improved functionality, speed, and security. This step is optional and could be expensive and time-consuming.

There are many torrent trackers, but I like The Pirate Bay a lot. I usually go hunting if there's nothing on there.

If you're looking for Top 40 "music" and popular stuff, your torrents will naturally be fast. More obscure stuff may take some time. Remember to seed, and remember that patience is actually, in most cases, a good thing.
