Does anybody know what part of ireland the richardson family is from?

i'm looking to go to ireland to see my family's irish rootsand irish history

What really annoys me is that americans assume that Ireland is SO ancient that people know every family on the d**n Island.....and that we are divided into "clans"

Just how many Richardsons could there be? Theres not just one family with your name

i know a guy named "Richardson"....theyre everywhere, theyre not "concentrated" in any specific area

How would anyone know where YOUR family is from?....they wouldnt!

Your ancestors could have lived in any county in the country

By the way, im pretty sure thats isnt an Irish name in the first place

Your family were probably settlers that arrived during the plantations....which, in that case, doesnt make them "irish" at all - if they were the ones to try to crush our country and its customs

(of course they might not necessarily have been planters, but Richardson is a very British surname)

The name Richardson is English in origin, so they probably moved over after Cromwell. And it's likely they were Protestant.

Does anyone in your family know where the family immigrated from?

Edit: I found this site about Irish surnames compiled from surveys taken in 1850 & 1890, which indicates there were Richardsons in Dublin & Antrim

But in order to specifically find out where your particular family originates, you need to find out who came to America & where they came from

The only way is to actually research your own family, until you find the original person who emigrated from Ireland.  There's no other way of knowing where in the country the person came from.
