Hi, I Live in Blackpool lancashire and Iam wanting to take my son to the Teddy Bears Picnic at the East lancashire railway, but Iam unsure which station I go to. The event opens at 11am-4pm.

It states FREE travel on the Steam train for all children with a Teddy Bear (if accompanied by an adult) between Heywood & Ramsbottom or between Rawtenstall & Ramsbottom for the Teddy Bears Picnic to be held at Nuttall Park, adjacent to Ramsbottom Station. Iam just confused which one i go to. Could anybody give me any information on this and has anybdy been before? thanks fr your answers.

  1. Hi Denise.You have basically 2 options:-

      1) Most direct route.

Train from Blackpool North to Bolton. Bus No.471 to Bury. The bus stops @ Bury interchange a short way from the station.

        2) Most interesting route.Train to Manchester then Metrolink to Bury. Again, the Metro stops at Bury interchange.

Both journeys are approx one & a half hours. Don't worry about the venue, just get to Bury Bolton Street station ( that is the home of the East Lancs Railway society which organises the event), and the folks there will point You in the right direction. It's all run by volunteers who want everbody to have a good time. I have been several times and it's a great day out for kids(and big kids like me), hope You have a terrific time!

  2. Only the UK could have a place called Ramsbottom

  3. Train to Picadilly in Manchester,  bus to Heywood

Or maybe train to bolton then bus Heywood (probably easier than getting to Rawtenstall, its nearer)

Then you would get the free steam train to Ramsbottom.

However, on a bank holiday God knows how often the trains and buses are. If you want to go direct to Nuttall Park, get the metro from Picadilly to Bury, then a bus from bury to Ramsbottom.

You can go on the national travel website (soz cant remember the name of it) and suss out the times.

  4. If the picnic is at Ramsbottom then it will be Ramsbottom station.I know from experience that the East Lancs railway is based there.
